Next Step Sundays

Through the survey process, we learned some key truths about ourselves. We want to continue to unpack this information, share the survey results with the congregation, and listen for where God is leading NCPC into the future.  Please join us for our Next Step Sundays where we will be listening and learning from one another and the process. The Zoom link will be available in our weekly emails and in the form below on the day of each event.

These gatherings will be facilitated by Pastor Heather, Pastor Kurt, and Rev. Jim Mead, our Survey Consultant.

January 10th, 6:30 - 8:00 pm on Zoom: Discussion of Leadership Concerns

We will be talking with Dr. Corey Schlosser-Hall (Northwest Coast Presbytery) about the impact of staffing changes from the last two years.  We will also be exploring the survey results and what was said about leadership, transparency, and trust.

January 17th, 6:30 - 8:00 pm on Zoom: Discussion of Worship

We will spend this evening sharing about our experience of worship, and working together to address challenges and strengthen the assets our community brings to worship.  We will also spend some time in worship together and exploring some new ways to praise God together.

January 24th, 6:30 - 8:00 pm on Zoom: Discussion of Energy and Engagement

We will be continuing to look at the survey results and talking together about issues of energy and engagement with ministry. There will be time to reflect on the issues that have impacted our congregation over the past couple years, and to consider how we each are a part of how God is leading us forward in healing and hope.

January 31st, 6:30pm on Zoom:  Annual Congregational Meeting

We will receive our 2020 ministry reports and the Session will be presenting about what has been heard and discovered over the course of our Next Step Sundays.  We will lay out next steps in the transition process and look together at where God is calling North Creek Presbyterian in 2021.

Next Step Sundays Monday Morning Recap - Week 1

Thank you to the 90+ households that participated in last night’s Next Step Sunday conversation, January 10, 2021.  Each Monday morning, we will send out a recap so that the entire congregation is aware of the conversations happening in this transition process.

We began our time together with Dr. Corey Schlosser-Hall (Executive Presbyter of the Northwest Coast Presbytery) who began with some reflections on trust.

  • By definition, trust is confidence / mistrust is suspicion

  • Trust allows growth to happen, a lack of trust causes growth and change to stall

  • Trust is built as we experience a person or leadership body’s character of integrity, and competency in follow through and effectiveness

Corey then walked us through a timeline of the events that resulted in Rev. Dr. Casson leaving of his pastoral position He also reflected on the two investigative committees that handled complaints within the congregation during the past two years.  Corey highlighted the impact of these events on the trust our members have with one another and with our church leaders.  This history was shared in order to answer any remaining questions, and in the hope that we can begin to move forward with plans for the future.  To that end, those present had an opportunity to ask questions of clarification.

After a brief time sharing in small groups, we heard from Rev. Dr. Jim Mead who is our consultant and is helping to interpret the Church Assessment Tool (Survey).  Jim walked us through the answers our congregation gave around leadership and reflected with us on the results which showed a distinct lack of trust coming out of the experience of pastoral transition. We spent some time in small groups asking why we answered the survey questions this way.

We ended the evening consider the question “What is God asking of me?” in light of what we had heard.   We will be continuing this conversation next week as we turn our conversation towards restoring and rebuilding trust in the congregation and look specifically at the survey results around worship.  Please join us!

Coming Up - Sunday, January 17th from 6:30 - 8:00pm

We will spend this evening reflecting further on building trust in our community, and then turn our conversation to the topic of worship.   We will be sharing about our experience of worship and working together to address challenges and strengthen the assets our community brings to worship.  We will also spend some time in worship together and exploring some new ways to praise God together.
